Shorne Woods

A small window of opportunity between the showers allowed me to go for a short walk around the fishing lakes at Shorne Country park.
The sun had come out and in spite of the windy conditions I still managed to find something of interest.
Firstly the fauna and in particular once again the Orchids, I had seen a couple of Bee Orchids here around the lakes last year and I wanted to see if they had appeared this year, sadly no, but I managed to find one in a different position around the lakes, so quite happy with that.

Bee Orchid at Shorne

Common Spotted Orchids appeared to be cropping up  all around the woodland, my first seen this year.

Common Carder Bee - Bombus pascuorum  on Common Spotted Orchid

In spite of the windy conditions the Bee's were avidly feeding on all the available food sources, Bramble flowers, Honeysuckle and some sort of what looked like Privet flowers.

Vestal Cuckoo Bumblebee - Bombus vestalis

Tree Bumblebee - Bombus hypnorum

Garden Bumblebee  -   Bombus hortorum

White Tailed Bumblebee - Bombus lucorum
Couldn't find any Dragonflies, but plenty of Damselflies, mainly Azure and Blue Tailed.

Finished off with a view of several Lizards making the most of the brief sunny interlude like me.

Orchid list progressing well.
